Seizures can happen for a variety of reasons, and there are several different types of seizures. If your dog has seizures often, he or she may have epilepsy. Seizures can cause your dog to twitch and/or shake uncontrollably, and they can last for just a few seconds to a few minutes.


  • Collapsing
  • Stiffening
  • Jerking
  • Twitching muscles
  • Tongue chewing
  • Foaming at the mouth
  • Falling over to the side and paddling
  • Urination or defecation during the seizure can occur
  • Confusion
  • Wobbliness
  • Temporary blindness
  • Walking in circles and/or bumping into objects
  • Excessive drooling

Natural solutions:

  • Switch your dog to a balanced, varied, species-appropriate raw food diet. Make sure you feed them meat that is antibiotic- and hormone-free, and organic/pasture-raised/grass-fed as much as possible.
  • Eliminate toxins, including pesticides, herbicides, and parasite preventives.
  • Make sure your dog doesn’t have any thyroid problems.
  • Consider using natural modalities, including animal chiropractic, acupuncture (find a veterinary acupuncturist, acupressure, and or massage.
  • Work with a veterinarian for help with your dog’s specific case.
